TUDUM 🤙 THIS WEEKEND

  • Hello CuratedLA Family! I hope that your Memorial Day was restful and full of sunshine. In true LA fashion, the Good Vibes don’t stop, as they roll into this weekend with Netflix’s TUDUM at the Kia Forum this Saturday. Folks like Lady Gaga, Hanumankind, and a lineup so stacked it feels like a group text gone rouge: Matt Damon, Millie Bobby Brown, Jenna Ortega, Ben Affleck, Guillermo del Toro, and probably a few secret drops. PS - every celeb mentioned definitely subscribes to CuratedLA. Probably. Maybe. If you’re not already on board, now is the time to subscribe and send us your tips, and stay tapped in. That’s the plug. And here’s Janet with the Good Vibes below. I’ll be back in your inbox on Friday (if you let me). Until then, continue to finish out this week strong! - Wyatt

COMMUNITY

SEPULVEDA CORRIDOR 🚇️ REDUCING TRAFFIC

  • Metro has released updated proposals for the long awaited Sepulveda Transit Corridor connecting the San Fernando Valley to the Westside, with five new build alternatives ranging from underground heavy rail to elevated monorail. Each concept begins at Van Nuys Metrolink Station and targets a UCLA connection, with potential stops linking to the G, D, and E Lines. Travel times vary between 18 and 33 minutes, with projected ridership topping out at 124,000 daily boardings. The project’s estimated cost now ranges from $15.4bn to $24.4bn, with a second phase to LAX still years away. Community meetings continue through May 31st across LA, offering the public a closer look at renderings, costs, and routes under consideration.

LAX ✈️ OPENING OF METRO TRANSIT CENTER

  • After decades of planning, the new LAX Metro Transit Center opens June 6 on the airport’s northeast end at Aviation and 96th, connecting LAX to Metro’s K and C lines along with several regional bus routes. A free shuttle runs every ten minutes from the transit center to all terminals until the long-awaited Automated People Mover debuts in 2026. The $900m hub is part of LAX’s $30bn modernization plan ahead of the 2028 Olympics and includes ADA-accessible features, a bike hub, and a commercial plaza. TAP cards are available on-site, and Metro’s fare cap means travelers never pay more than $5 a day.

DEVELOPMENT

WESTCHESTER ✔️ MIXED USE PROJECT APPROVED

  • A long delayed mixed use project on W Manchester Avenue is moving forward after the City Council upheld its approval and a union withdrew its appeal. Developer Cityview plans an eight story complex with 489 apartments, ground floor retail, and over 500 parking spots, including 64 very low income units enabled by density bonuses. Designed by AC Martin, the structure will add pedestrian plazas and span several Westchester streets. Construction is expected to begin this year with completion by 2027.

MID-CITY 🏗️ GREEN PROJECT PROPOSED

  • A seven story mixed use project is now rising on Pico Boulevard, replacing a corner lot with older commercial and residential structures in Mid City. Designed by Khal Khaireddin Architects and developed by APPA Real Estate, the project will include forty studio and one bedroom units, 1,350 square feet of retail, and 25 parking spaces in a podium garage. Under the Transit Oriented Communities program, four units will be reserved for extremely low income households. The facade will feature floor to ceiling glass, curved balconies, and recessed planters to soften the eastern elevation, but no construction timeline has been announced.

BUSINESS

NETFLIX 💰️ CASH FOR CONTENT

  • Netflix is chasing creator economy clout, offering upfront cash and prestige to TikTokers and YouTubers in hopes of luring them off ad-driven platforms and onto its streamer. While most influencers resist exclusivity in exchange for losing YouTube’s revenue share, Netflix has landed shows from Blippi, Ms. Rachel, and the YouTube-native hit The Amazing Digital Circus. Talks with Hot Ones producer First We Feast are also underway. The move comes as rivals like Amazon and Peacock scale up creator-led programming, signaling a shift as traditional streamers compete not just with each other but with the platforms creators already dominate.

BOX OFFICE 🍿 SHATTERING RECORDS

  • The Memorial Day box office shattered records as Disney’s Lilo & Stitch reimagining opened to an explosive $183m domestic and $341.7m global haul, becoming the biggest Memorial Day debut ever and unseating Top Gun: Maverick. Meanwhile, Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning notched a franchise-best $77.5m domestic launch, boosting the weekend total past $326m, the highest Memorial Day take in history. Lilo saw surprising Gen Z and Latino turnout, with 60 percent of its audience being non-parents, while M:I found strength with older male fans and Imax screens despite its $400m budget.

LAS VEGAS 💃 JENNIFER LOPEZ

  • Jennifer Lopez is heading back to the Strip with Up All Night Live in Las Vegas, a new residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace beginning New Year’s Eve week with four launch shows December 30th and 31st, and January 2nd and 3rd, followed by eight more in March 2026. The show marks Lopez’s return to Vegas following her $100m grossing run at Planet Hollywood from 2016 to 2018. Fans can expect a mix of iconic hits and never before heard tracks. Citi cardmember presales begin June 2nd, with general tickets on sale June 6 at Ticketmaster.

AMC THEATRES 💰️ MAKING DOUGH

  • AMC Theatres just had its biggest Memorial Day weekend ever, drawing over seven million global visitors and setting records in admissions, food and beverage sales, and overall revenue across its U.S. and international locations. Fueled by blockbusters Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the five-day stretch marked AMC’s third-highest grossing period in over a decade, including its most attended Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of 2025.

DODGERS 🧢 WIN OVER GUARDIANS, 9-5

ANGELS ⚾️ CHRIS TAYLOR SIGNS

  • In a midseason shakeup that nods to both necessity and nostalgia, the Angels signed former Dodgers utility man and two time World Series champion Chris Taylor ahead of Monday night’s game against the Yankees, slotting him into center field as Mike Trout remains sidelined with a knee injury. Taylor, 34, was released by the Dodgers just over a week ago after batting .200, and now looks to extend his career across town as the Angels cling to playoff hopes four games behind Seattle in the AL West. His experience adds stability to an outfield rotation that includes Taylor Ward, Jo Adell, and Jorge Soler, with the team hoping to snap a two game skid and push past their 25-27 record.
