MONDAY’S VIBES

🙈 HEY, CUTIE. TODAY IS NATIONAL AWKWARD MOMENTS DAY

  • 🏀 NCAA BRACKETS: March Madness brackets are here, they are here! And with that, I am excited to announce our first annual CuratedLA Curator Bracket Challenge!

What was a quick thought over the weekend to make a Curator Bracket Challenge has now turned into implementation. The invitation link is below, with a password that can be found further down ⬇️, right after today’s HOV Lane, and before today’s Eat Section: digitally, I can hide certain elements from those that are not Curators within section breaks.

I am reaching out to local brands in hopes to identify giveaways for our winners: restaurants, bars, venues, businesses, etc. I’ll be working behind-the-scenes throughout the week emailing more brands and setting up further, but more formal thoughts on point allocations, etc. If you would like to gift any items from your brand, please email me! This is a great way to not only receive free press and foot/digital traffic, but to give back to our local LA community.

Our First Inaugural Curator Bracket Challenge is completely free to subscribers. As always, it is also free to subscribe to CuratedLA and become a Curator. To ensure that your bracket counts, please complete a bracket by Thursday around 9am (more concretes coming in Wednesday’s newsletter), and subscribe to CuratedLA by this weekend so I can match everything accordingly. We are using ESPN for March Madness, and they too also have giveaways.

  •  FMR. TREASURY SECRETARY WANTS TO BUY TIKTOK: Bel Air resident and former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is putting together an investor group to buy TikTok. This marks the second Los Angeles area resident interested in acquiring TikTok as Santa Monica’s Bobby Kotick, who previously served as Activision Blizzard’s CEO, has also expressed interest. Both Mnuchin and Kotick’s initatives come after the US House of Representatives passed a bill last week that would require TikTok's Chinese owners ByteDance to divest the business within six months or face a ban in the US. Both men see TikTok as a valuable business, each aiming their own respective group of investors to acquire it, emphasizing TikTok should be owned by US businesses. The potential acquisition of TikTok by American investors reflect the ongoing concerns about national security and data privacy related to the popular social media app. Despite the House bill passing, its fate remains uncertain in the Senate, where lawmakers are expected to conduct a thorough review before making a decision.
